I’m thrilled that The Shining Girls is the kick-off title for Cosmopolitan Magazine UK’s new Book Club.
Interestingly, Cosmopolitan’s Lorna Gray told me that get the most hits when they post about books on the blog, over and above celebrity news, health, fashion or lifestyle, which is inspiring. Women: well-rounded. Who would have thought? (Insert sarcasm mark for those who auto-dismiss women’s magazines)
There’s a passel of smart, insightful reviews over at their site with different takes on the book.
It got a low romance rating, but scored high on the unputdownable factor. Jane Kelly found it “terrifyingly addictive.” Caroline Fergusson liked that “troubled but feisty Kirby’s relationship with Dan gives the dark story a sweet and lighter edge,” Erin McEwan loved the imagination and went from the brink of tears to the edge of her seat and Louise McCourt couldn’t put it down and found that it “leaves you with an uneasy after-taste of outrage”, which was so exactly what I intended.
I love that major magazines like Cosmopolitan are giving space to books and book lovers.
I love that people read and are ferociously passionate and engaged.
And I love that The Shining Girls goes down as well with Cosmo as it does with Wired.
