Dan Velasquez portrayed by actor Wagner Moura walks into a subway in Chicago to report on a murder

Awesome to see Shining Girls included in Esquire’s The 20 Best Show to Watch on Apple TV+ in 2022 – selected by Josh Rosenberg. Esquire’s Adrienne Westenfeld interviewed me about The Shining Girls adaptation back in April. Westenfeld asked me a bunch of great questions during the interview. I spoke about my talks with Silka Luisa, about my involvement with the adaptation production and about our general unhealthy obsession with the true crime genre:

“Having this story turn into a TV show has been the most incredible experience of my life. But at the same time, what’s most meaningful to me has been when someone comes up to speak to me at a reading. She’ll wait until the very last person has left, when the bookseller is packing up the event, and say, ‘I went through something, and I just want to let you know that the way you wrote about it is absolutely true.'”

Another great still image from the adaptation of Wagner Moura as Dan Velasquez , supplied by Apple TV+
