Director Lauren Beukes follows three contestants in the run up to the big night; the ‘princess’, Kat Gilardi, pageant queen Kayden van Heerden whose inclusion as a trans woman is causing controversy and ballroom dancer, Eva Torres, who is Matthew the mechanic by day who tragically lost his younger brother in a police accident.
The pilot episode of the satirical political puppet show based on the hit UK Spitting Images sees Cape Town’s premiere busting out into rap and President Zuma doing his best Shrek impression.
