Everyone is talking about The Shining Girls adaptation after the premiere on the 29th of April this year. The series’ showrunner Silka Luisa, actors Elisabeth Moss, Phillipa Soo, Wagner Moura, Jamie Bell and all supporting role actors have adapted my genre-bending thriller The Shining Girls and created something completely new and unique. The show has been received so well by audiences from all over the world which has been amazing to see. Here are some noteworthy clippings I’ve collected about the Apple TV+ thriller series Shining Girls:
South Africa’s The Citizen dub me “Phenomenal”, we talk process and producing.
“The series tackles sexual violence which isn’t nuance or harrowing and what it’s like being a trauma survivor. Beukes adds Shining Girls, a show run by leading women is going to allow more conversations about violence against women.”
CriCríticos shine a spotlight on the book to adaptation journey.
“Have you watched every episode of Ilunimadas? Do you know how the series ends? [laughs]
LB: I [have] watched it. I will not tell. But the book offers some clues.”
“It’s very exciting to see what other minds create,” she concludes, summarising her relationship with seeing her work adapted. “There are things that I think are very important in the book that aren’t in the series. And that’s okay.”
Coxinha Nerd learn more about how the idea developed and how the show differs and why.
“Beukes also explains that we shouldn’t expect to see a story identical to the book: ‘I think they [fans] should be prepared for it to be different from the book in some pretty significant ways. But I think they need to understand that the feminist heart of the book remains. And it became an adaptation using the same characters and using the same type of storytelling, but sort of expanding in different and very exciting ways…'”
